    • VLANs & Trunking
    • DTP, VTP (client/server/transparent)
    • STP & RSTP
    • PortFast, BPDU Guard, Root Guard, Loop Guard
    • EtherChannel (PAgP, LACP)

Actions

  • Read/Watch:
    • Official Cert Guide Chapters 8–10
    • Cisco documentation on STP/Rapid-PVST+
  • Practice Labs:
    • Create 3-switch network with multiple VLANs.
    • Configure STP with root primary/secondary.
    • Implement port security.
    • Test EtherChannel (static vs LACP).
  • Practice:
    • Identify interface errors (CRC, collisions, duplex mismatch) from show interface.

End of Phase Goals

  • Configure and verify VLANs and trunks.
  • Understand loop prevention and redundancy mechanisms.
  • Explain how MAC address tables work under different scenarios.

Phase 3 – Routing (Week 4–5)

Goal: Master IPv4/IPv6 routing concepts and configuration.

Topics

  • 3.0 IP Connectivity
    • Static routing
    • Default routes
    • Dynamic routing: OSPFv2, OSPFv3
    • First-hop redundancy (HSRP concepts)
    • Packet forwarding logic

Actions

  • Read/Watch:
    • Official Cert Guide Chapters 11–13
  • Practice Labs:
    • Configure OSPF single area with IPv4 & IPv6.
    • Use show ip route to troubleshoot routing.
    • Create a lab with 3 routers + multiple networks.
  • Troubleshooting Skills:
    • Analyze routing tables and fix broken routes.
    • Understand when to use a default route vs static vs dynamic routing.

End of Phase Goals

  • Be able to design and implement OSPF from scratch.
  • Confidently explain packet path selection and routing metrics.

Phase 4 – Services & Security (Week 6)

Goal: Configure basic services and secure the network.

Topics

  • 4.0 IP Services
    • DHCP, DNS
    • NAT/PAT
    • NTP
    • Syslog
    • SNMP
  • 5.0 Security Fundamentals
    • AAA concepts
    • Wireless security
    • ACLs (standard, extended)
    • Layer 2 attacks (DHCP starvation, MAC flooding, etc.)

Actions

  • Practice Labs:
    • Configure DHCP relay on routers.
    • Implement static NAT and PAT.
    • Configure ACLs to control traffic.
    • Secure a switch using port security and BPDU Guard.
  • Read:
    • Cisco docs on ACL syntax and placement.

End of Phase Goals

  • Understand how NAT and ACLs interact.
  • Recognize common security threats and mitigations.

Phase 5 – Automation & Exam Prep (Week 7)
